God is bringing restoration to the prophetic ministry in the Church in this hour. But as a people our mindsets towards receiving a prophetic word must change. We must understand the power of the prophetic word, and realize it's not some type of fortune cookie word. It's not just about getting information. Most of the time a person could receive a word in their quiet time, but many have tried to substitute the prophetic word for relationship. The purpose of the prophetic word should always bring confirmation to what the Lord has already been speaking to you.
At a recent conference I attended, I was able to take part in a time of prophetic ministry. I was able to speak prophetic words over those who had signed up for a time of ministry. I was surprised at the mixture of intentions I found in those wanting to recieve a word. For the most part there were those who were genuinely seeking to hear a word from the Lord. But there were those who came with the intention to see how well someone could prophesy, and tell them about themselves. There were those carrying religious spirits coming to release fear and intimidation to silence the prophetic voice the person speaking to them was carrying. And there were people carrying demonic spirits trying to disguise themselves, but their intentions were to release witchcraft against the prophetic voices.
I believe some of the mixed reasons people come to receive a word has been twisted, because of the perversion of the prophetic over the years. It has become more of a spectacle in past years, because people have become mesmerized by how much information someone can prophesy to them not realizing that person prophesying could be tapping into a form of divination.
The honor and reverence must be restored to the prophetic word. People are going to the psychic and the prophet, deciding which word carries more power. There should never be question of which source carries more power. The Word of the Lord is true and stands forever (Psalm 119:89). There are those operating in the prophetic that are using divination, and not God as their source for the words spoken over people. We must discern this and call it out. I believe we lack discernment as a people because we have itching ears like 2 Timothy 4:3 says, "For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear." Many are are desiring to get a prophetic word because they are not willing to seek God first for Him to speak.
The purpose of a prophetic word is to strengthen, encourage, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3). Many are missing the purpose of the prophetic word, and getting enamored with the word of knowledge. The intent of the word of knowledge is to help us build our faith to receive the prophetic word spoken. The prophetic is not about how much information someone can speak over your life. It's about releasing a word that brings transformation. The prophetic word spoken has the power to create pathways, shift you in the new seasons, brings your future into the now, it speaks of the things written in your book (139:16). It carries the same power the Lord used to create the heavens and earth (Genesis 1). Be careful not to hunger so much for "a word" that you open the door for the enemy to send someone in your life to speak into it, without discerning if it's from God or not.
It's my prayer and desire to see honor and reverence restored to the prophetic. It's become so peverted and twisted, because man has used it for their own glory and platform. God will not be mocked. He's releasing a new a era of prophets and prophetic people that carry the weight of glory in the words they release, that will expose the fake.
